Jesse leads Details Design + Build, an interior design and construction firm based in the Tacoma-Gig Harbor area of Washington State. With a team of four including another interior designer and two virtual assistants, they specialize in high-end renovations with typical project values ranging from $150,000 to $200,000. "We do a lot of renovations, a lot of kitchen and baths," Jesse explains, serving clients who demand both beautiful design and flawless execution.

The Problem

Before finding the right solution, things were painful. "Life before Materio was a little bit chaotic," Jesse recalls. "We didn't really have great systems in place. We used Excel, and a lot of copying and pasting and editing and messing things up, and time just spent organizing selections for clients."

The inefficiencies were crippling their growth.

"It was stressful, for sure... there was a lot of time spent on organizing selections in our Excel spreadsheets. It was just honestly looking back, it's kind of embarrassing now how much time was spent, and also just time invested in a lot of admin work that didn't need to be done."

"That really took away from the creativity and client experience, I think, because behind the scenes we were running around redoing work, things not being shared between teammates and 2 people working on the same task was a fairly common experience."

The team was stretched so thin that quality suffered:

"It just ate up so much time that we would, you know, unfortunately, skip site visits, maybe where we should have gone and just relied on our subcontractors for pictures."

With Materio as a Partner

Jesse had tried multiple solutions before discovering Materio.

"I've had a couple of attempts trying to find a software system. One of those attempts was also creating it myself. Hiring somebody to try to build that out. And it's really hard to find something that caters to a design and build firm."

The moment Jesse tested Materio, everything changed.

"I definitely remember that 'Aha moment' with Materio where I was like, damn, this is gonna be good."

After importing just one project to test the platform, Jesse made a dramatic decision:

"I actually cancelled all of my appointments for the next 4 days, and we put all of our projects into Materio. I was like, stop everything... even if we press pause for 4 days, upload all of our projects. We're gonna be way ahead."

The Transformation

Within weeks, the entire operation transformed.

"After throwing all of our projects into Materio, took about 4 days, and we were all set," Jesse explains. "It's so easy to operate and navigate. It just makes sense... it's pretty badass."

The impact was immediate and measurable. Project capacity exploded:

"Before Materio, we would maybe have one or 2 projects in the build out phase and 3 to 4 in the design phase. Once we really integrated Materio... we were up to 3 open construction projects at a time. And now we're up to like 10 in the design phase."

Materio became the foundation that enabled strategic growth:

"Having Materio is actually the reason I was able to onboard [virtual assistants]. With systems in place, I would have never been able to scale or grow and also utilize virtual assistants without Materio."

Success

The results speak for themselves.

"As far as revenue and growth, since Materio... we are 300% more than what we were a year ago. So it's insane to actually be able to say."

But the transformation goes beyond numbers. The chaos has been replaced by confidence:

"We are on top of it, and really proud of everything that we're able to accomplish with Materio."

The platform handles everything from mood boards ("We can do a mood board in like 4 clicks") to procurement ("We are not losing product... we know where everything is all the time").

When asked what would happen if Materio disappeared, Jesse's response is telling:

"I would just shut down my business if Materio closed."
